Planning Permission Granted for Nina Barbour and Oliver Townend’s Eventing Stud Farm
22/08/2011
KWA has achieved planning permission for Harthill Stud, owned and to be operated by Nina Barbour and 2009 winner of Badminton and Burghley, Oliver Townend. The stud farm will be dedicated to breeding and selling Eventing horses.
Although a former dairy farm, the site brought with it a number of difficult planning issues. It is located within a Conservation Area and abuts a Listed Church and other Listed buildings. In addition, both bats and badgers, which are protected species, were thought to be present in the area. The scheme had to account for Public Rights of Way over a footpath, a disused slurry pit and for significant changes in the levels across the site. In addition, the stud farm operation required over two and a half times the floor area of the existing farm buildings. Despite this, the KWA designed scheme achieved planning permission through a combination of a sensitively designed scheme and careful and knowledge-driven negotiations.
